Portfolio deposit

A portfolio deposit is when the authorized participant makes up an ETF basket with the AMC or fund house, by depositing the securities in the basket.

Since portfolio deposit is done in exchange for creating a unit, it is called ‘in kind’ creation because securities are exchanged for securities, with hardly any cash changing hands.
